This issue of The Flash marked the first appearance of a boy named Wally West coming to Central City from the hand of his aunt Iris. As club president Flash fan of his people, the reporter presented it to her boyfriend Barry Allen, who "was in contact with the superhero." When they met idol and fan, lightning knocked down a shelf of chemicals on Wally. As had happened to Barry two years before the accident gave him super speed. With a costume like that of Flash, Kid Flash became . The boy made his debut as that when an employee suffered Central City Zoo released a bear and a lion that he stopped without major problems. Kid Flash was the first Sidekick to debut a long time, and his appearance highlighted the good health that began to enjoy superheroes. As discussed in the next installment, it was not the only young fellow who debuted in 1960. What has differentiated Wally of the other over time has been becoming the only one able to replace his mentor permanently.
